Coyote Loss

Well after 6 years of no predator attacks on the flock, a coyote got one of my keeper ewe lambs.  We were on vacation this past week.  The house sitter didn't notice one less during in the week, but when I got home I did right away.  No trace.  Fence up and hot, just gone.  My neighbor called last night to say something had dragged the few day old carass into their yard.  They had heard coyotes and screams like nothing she had ever heard before outside a few nights before but didn't see the carass until last night.  I don't know if she had gotten out of the fence and was easy pickings or if they got in and out of my electronet without being shocked, tangled, or taking it down.  I just hope they don't come back for more now they have gotten a taste.  If you have purchased a lamb and haven't picked it up yet, you may want to come sooner, rather than later.

  1. So sorry, such a beautiful looking ewe.

  2. Oh Kara, how sad. And scary, too; I wouldn't think coyotes could get a lamb OUT without a trace like that – but a cougar could. Do you have cougars in the area?

  3. Oh no, I am so sorry. She was a lovely young girl and I will pray that the coyote never returns.

  4. Kara, I am so sorry!!! she was quite the cutie, coyotes are getting bold around here to so I am upping guard animals....on a happy note I finally got see Lucy in person today and love her!!
    warmest regards
